I wanted to hike the Trans-Catalina Trail because I missed the ocean and the beach. It was that simple.

It did not disappoint.

From the high peaks up above the ocean fog, to the deep-cut coves with the bluest crystal-clear water I have ever seen, and to the steep (I mean really steep) grassy hillsides in between, Santa Catalina Island truly is a special place.

All said and done, I swam at 4 different beaches and enjoyed countless more from a distance. I saw 3 Bison, and several mule deer, in addition to one fox and countless quail and squirrels that are unique to the island and found nowhere else in the world.
